Material examined. Holotype (female): Vietnam: Hoa Binh Prov., Cuc Phuong National Park , (20°19'N, 105°36'30''E), 19–23.vii.2011, leg. J. Constant & J. Bresseel (I.G. 31.933)—(Brussels RBINS). GoogleMaps
Diagnosis. The new taxon is very similar to W. finitima Gorochov, 2002 . It differs by longer, relatively narrower tegmina with closest proximation of media to radius a little less close and widening of CuA1 CuA2 area sub-angular and more closely approached to media, longer hind femora and distinctly longer ovipositor. The female abdominal characters are similar to that of W. finitima but with lateral margins of the seventh sternite not narrowing towards apical widening, the apical widening is more strongly bulging, and the subgenital plate is longer and with distinct apical rim. The ovipositor is regularly curved throughout while in W. bavi sp. nov. in middle nearly straight; it is distinctly longer in W. ampliata sp. nov. than in W. finitima , 17 against 12 mm, the shape is not given for the latter. The face of W. ampliata is rather high and narrow as compared to W. bavi and W. finitima .
Description. Large to medium sized species. Head: Face narrow ovoid, nearly smooth; fastigium verticis about as wide as scapus; ocelli little distinct; separation of fastigium frontis from fastigium verticis indistinct; transition from central part of lower face (below compound eyes) to lateral area sub-angular ( Fig. 90B View FIGURE 90 ). Abdominal tergites two and three each with two rows of stridulatory pegs (9, 10; 12,>16; n = 1).
Wings almost reaching tip of stretched hind tibia ( Fig. 90A View FIGURE 90 ). Tegmen: Radius with two branches, both forked near tip; media anterior free from base; cubitus anterior at base with a single branch that forks into two veins, the anterior branch makes a curvature and receives an oblique connection vein from MA and shortly after divides again into two parallel branches, MP and CuA1, while the posterior branch (CuA2) does not divide further; cubitus posterior undivided, free throughout; with 4 anal veins, last two with common stem.
Legs: Fore coxa with a spine at fore margin; fore and mid femora unarmed; fore and mid tibiae with four pairs of large ventral spines and one pair of smaller ventral spurs; hind femur with 7–8 external and 11–12 internal spines on ventral margins; hind tibia with spaced spines on both dorsal margins, ventral margins with one pre-apical spine each; with 3 apical spurs on both sides.
Coloration. General color brown; vertex mostly black with margins brown; pronotum indistinctly mottled with lighter and darker flecks and some black spots; most abdominal tergites light with broad black hind margin; legs of general color. Face light-colored with indistinct pattern; dorsal area of fastigium verticis, scapus, pedicellus and a spot below compound eyes black. Tegmen semi-transparent, along margins whitish, along midline brownish; veins dark brown; hind wing semi-transparent whitish, veins dark brown.
Male unknown.
Female. Sixth abdominal sternite strongly setose. Seventh abdominal sternite distinctly longer and narrower than preceding sternites with nearly parallel margins, at around beginning of apical third with transverse riffles, then suddenly strongly widened laterally and elevated forming an auricular structure open behind; apical margin between lobes concave. Subgenital plate roughly semi-circular but for greatest part membranous as seen by numerous transverse riffles; apical margin little bulging and sclerotised, interrupted in middle by a furrow ( Fig. 91H View FIGURE 91 ). Ovipositor elongate, moderately curved throughout, with slightly converging margins; tip narrowly obtuse ( Fig. 90C View FIGURE 90 ).
Measurements (1 female).—body w/wings: 53; body w/o wings: 34; pronotum: 6.2; tegmen: 46; tegmen width: 14; hind femur: 20; ovipositor: 17 mm.
Etymology. The name refers to the strong apical widening of the seventh abdominal sternite of the female.
