Strandesia bicuspis ( Claus 1892) G.W. Müller 1912 View in CoL
Strandesia bicuspis View in CoL — Karanovic 2012: 370.
Synonyms: Acanthocypris bicuspis Claus 1892 ; Neocypris gladiator Sars 1901 ; Eucypris (Eucyoris) bicuspis Daday 1905 View in CoL ; Strandesia denticulata Tressler 1950 (juveniles); Strandesia biscuspis biscuspis Kleerekoper 1955 (misspelling).
Type locality: Claus (1892: 55 [201]) specifies that the material comes from Peitiado Pond (“ Laguna de Peitiado ”), Córdoba Province, Argentina (GN 31°24’49” S, 64°10’52” W), and was obtained at the same time together with Chlamydoteca leuckarti . No holotype assigned or repository of known material GoogleMaps .
In Venezuela: the occurrence of the species in Venezuela probably comes from Claus (1892) (see remarks): VENEZUELA, no locality details ( Karanovic 2012).
Remarks: geographical distribution of the species is known for Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Suriname ( Martens & Behen 1994), Yucatan Peninsula ( Mexico), and southern Guatemala ( Furtos 1936b). Their presence was confirmed in Brazil ( Ferreira et al. 2020) and in Germany as alien invasive species ( Matzke-Karasz et al. 2014). The record of this species made by Karanovic (2012) probably comes from Claus (1892) and not from later records. Claus in his original description refers to material collected in Venezuela, specifically to the variety S. bicuspis var. mucronata , which he assigns and describes in the same paragraphs as the nominal species. Therefore, we recommend the review of the Venezuelan localities where S. bicuspis var. mucronata was recorded.
