DESCRIPTION:

Male

Measurements ♂: length: 8.5–9 mm, width: 4.5–5 mm.

Body: Laterally convex, bent; totally yellowish except clypeus, all margins, joints of legs, base of spines on outer part of legs and tarsi brownish-red; impressed point on lateral margins; smooth median line; shining without metallic reflection.

Head: clypeus semicircular and totally reflexed, with small deep punctures almost coalescent,

6

disc of vertex and frons with small isolated deep rounded punctures, close along inner side of eyes. Antennae with 9 antennomeres, with club as long as funicle.

Thorax: pronotum rectangular, wider than long; sides slightly angular in middle; all margins carinate; anterior angles projecting and reaching posterior margin of eyes; disc punctate with small separated rounded punctures, close towards sides; scutellar shield subtriangular, punctures equal those of pronotum.

Elytra: longer than wide; epipleura complete; primary costae slightly more convex than intervals; intervals microreticulate; first interval irregularly punctate, the others with almost complete secondary striae; sutural striae with close, large and deep punctures from base to disc, becoming smaller from disc to apex; others striae with small rounded punctures; humeral calli marked, apical calli slightly marked.

Pygidium: semicircular, carinate along anal plate, tumid, slightly projecting postero-ventrally and slightly surpassing apex of elytra, strongly punctate with close transversal ovoid punctures.

Venter: upper part of metaventrite with isolated shallow horseshoe-shaped punctures, median part with small isolated rounded punctures; 2 nd to 5 th abdominal ventrites with transversal shallow cressent-shaped punctures, 6 th with imbricate puncture.

Legs: protibiae bidentate, larger claw elongate, ventrally slightly sinuate, shorter than last tarsomere; pro-and mesostarsal larger claw cleft; larger claw of metatarsus slightly longer than smaller one and uncleft.

Hairs: dorsal side with isolated yellowish setae from anterior angles of pronotum to declivity of elytra, on antennae, rare or absent on canthus; close on scape and on inner part of legs; underside with sparse decumbent yellowish setae on sides of abdominal ventrites and on metaventrite; longer erected isolated yellowish setae on coxae, on legs and along carinate of anal plate; close and decumbent on anterior and posterior margins of prosternum.

Aedeagus: in lateral view, parameres rather short and ventrally sinuate to the apex; in dorsal view, triangular, separated to apex.

Female

Measurements ♀: length: 9–10 mm, width: 4.5–5 mm.

Differs from ♂ by: larger; disc of pronotum more punctate; habitus laterally more convex and abdomen convex; antennae with club slightly shorter than funicle; protibiae narrower with apical tooth rounded and longer.

DERIVATIO NOMINIS.

The name is formed from the suffix “ oides ” meaning “similar to” and “ sulcithorax ”. It refers to the similarity with A. sulcithorax Ohaus, 1925 .

DISTRIBUTION. Known from Zambia.

BIOLOGY. The species was collected in October and November.

DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS.

Anomala sulcithoraxoides View in CoL sp. nov. is similar to A. sulcithorax Ohaus, 1925 View in CoL but can be distinguished as follows:

A. sulcithoraxoides View in CoL sp. nov. A. sulcithorax View in CoL ( Figs 24–30). Aedeagus: in lateral view parameres rather short and Aedeagus: in lateral view parameres rather short and ventrally sinuate to the apex; in dorsal view, triangular, ventrally slightly sinuate from base to apex; in dorsal separated at apex ( Figs 21–22). view, triangular not separated at apex ( Figs 28–29). ♂, ♀: yellowish without brownish black patches; ♂, ♀: yellowish with patches on pronotum, humeral shining. and apical calli, elytral suture and joints brownish black to brown; ♀ sometimes totally yellow; almost mat.
