DESCRIPTION:

Male

Measurements ♂: length: 7.5–8.5 mm, width: 3.5–4 mm.

Body: Laterally convex, short, slightly bent, broader in middle of elytra; abdomen concave; perpendicular process at base of prosternum pointed; yellowish with disc of pygidium and elytra brownish on lateral margins and on declivity; frons, vertex, apex of labrum, mandibles, apical teeth of protibiae black; slightly shining.

Head: broad, clypeus narrow and rounded, breath equal to space between eyes, strongly anteriously projecting, entirely reflexed, head totally covered with tubercles; antennae with10 antennomeres, with club as long as funicle.

Thorax: pronotum rectangular, wider than long; sides uniformly rounded from base to apex; all margins carinate; anterior angles slightly projecting and reaching posterior margin of eyes; with separated deep rounded punctures; slight impressed point on lateral margins; scutellar shield triangular, rounded apex, with small separated deep rounded punctures.

Elytra: longer than wide; epipleura complete; primary costae more convex than intervals, all secondary striae irregularly punctate; striae formed by a line of close small rounded punctures; humeral and apical calli slightly marked.

Pygidium: triangular, apex rounded, carinate along anal plate, not projecting postero-ventrally and not surpassing apex of elytra; small isolated punctures.

Venter: upper part of metaventrite with close cressent-shaped punctures, sparsely towards median part; abdominal ventrites with irregular separated puncture.

Legs: protibiae narrow and tridentate, larger claw elongate, slightly shorter than last tarsomere, pro-and mesotarsal larger claw cleft; larger claw of metatarsus 2 times longer than smaller and uncleft.

Hairs: dorsal side covered with short white, squamous, decumbent setae, close on head; long separated erected yellowish setae from lateral margins of pronotum to declivity of elytra, shorter to the apex; short yellowish setae on antennae and on canthus; underside covered with longer white, decumbent or erected setae; sparse long decumbent brownish-yellow setae inserted in setigerous punctures, one single setigerous puncture on metacoxae, transversal line on fifth abdominal ventrite; long decumbent yellowish-brown setae along anterior margin of prosternum, line of short white scales along posterior margin; long erected yellowish-brown setae on base of labium; long yellowish erected setae on pygidium, apex glabrous; outer sides of legs with short, white, squamous, decumbent, setae; inner sides with long erected yellowish setae meso-tibiae with sparse long erected yellowish setae inserted in setigerous punctures.

Aedeagus: in lateral view, parameres short and wide, ventrally slightly sinuate before apex, apex ventrally curved; in dorsal view, lateral margins of parameres relatively parallel from base to apex, apex sinuate on apico-internal angle.

Female

Measurements ♀: length: 7.5–8 mm, width: 4 mm.

Differs from ♂ by: laterally more convex and abdomen convex; antennae with club shorter as funicle; pygidium not projecting postero-ventrally and not surpassing apex of elytra; protibiae with apical teeth broad and longer.

DERIVATIO NOMINIS.

DISTRIBUTION. Known from Kenya.

BIOLOGY. The species was collected in November.

DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS.

Adoretus marci sp. is the only species of the genus with the clypeus narrow, with clypeal width equal to the space between the eyes and strongly anteriorly projecting.
