Delta unguiculatum ( de Villers, 1789) View in CoL
Vespa unguiculata de Villers, 1789: 282 (type locality: “ Europa. In Galliae Aust. floribus caepae frequens” [ France]).
Published records. Kostylev (1929): 77 (Ordubad), as Eumenes unguiculus ; Aliyeva (2010): 57.
Material examined. Shakhbuz, Zarnatun , 39°31′N, 45°46′E, 1550 m, 18. VI GoogleMaps .2019, 1 ♂ [ FSCV] .
Distribution. Western, Southern, and Eastern Europe, North Africa, Russia (European part), Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan.
Remarks. There are seven synonyms and four subspecies of Delta unguiculatum besides the nominotypical one ( van der Vecht & Fischer 1972). They require a revision (most probably all subspecies are also synonymous with the nominotypical one because the differences between them are based on the coloration); therefore, the complete synonymy is not listed here.
