In 1825, Stanley listed a specimen as ‘ Argus pheasant’ without a species epithet. Catalogued byȱRafflesȱ(1822)ȱasȱ Phasianus argus Linnaeus , but as Argus giganteus Temminck by Vigors (Rafflesȱ1830).ȱLackȱofȱaȱtraceableȱspecimenȱinȱNML,ȱorȱaȱnumberȱinȱMoore’sȱstockȱbooks,ȱ suggests it was not part of the 1851 bequest.
