Holotype M: São Paulo, Brazil ( NMNH).
Distribution in South America: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Venezuela.
Bibliographic sources: Relevant taxonomic and geographical information in Pecor et al. (1992). The species was redescribed by Forattini & Sallum (1993a) with complete descriptions of adults, larva and pupa; as well as notes on bionomics. Ecological contributions in Forattini et al. (1989b; 1990; 1991; 1993a,b). Other geographical records in Sutil (1980); Gomes et al. (1987); Rossi (1997); Rossi et al. (2002b); Ramos (2009); Laporta (2012); Berti et al. (2013 -as Culex mistura ); Del Ventura et al. (2013); Medeiros-Sousa et al. (2013a,b).
