Distribution: —Distributed in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, and Bahia.
Habitat:—Dense Ombrophilous Forest and Seasonal Semideciduous Forest.
Notes:— D. tejucensis can be identified by its asymmetric leaf blades, pilose indument on the abaxial surface of the leaf blade, and densely pilose secondary veins that give them a strikingly white appearance (observable in both cultivated plants and herbarium material). Another diagnostic character is the bluish margin of the sepals.
Kunth (1843) described D. mollis (1843: 112) and D. leandri (1843: 112) based on indument differences, mainly on the inflorescence branches. In the same work, Kunth (1843) noted that D. mollis was similar to D. tejucensis and D. villosula , and that D. leandri was similar to D. tejucensis . Years later, Clarke (1881) revised Dichorisandra and treated D. tejucensis as a variety of D. villosula and established D. mollis and D. leandri as synonyms of the new variety, D. villosula Martius ex Schultes f. var. tejucensis (Martius ex Schultes f.) Clarke. An analysis of the types of D. mollis , D. leandri and D. villosula var. tejucensis confirmed that they belong to the same species. All these names are here considered synonyms of D. tejucensis a decision supported by the morphological characters cited above.
