Sinella straminea ( Folsom, 1899) View in CoL
Figs 39–42 View FIGURES 39 – 42
Entomobrya straminea Folsom, 1899 Sinella straminea Börner, 1903
Sinella (Sinella) straminea Yosii, 1964
Type locality. Komaba , Tokyo, Japan.
Material examined. Two specimens on slides provided by Yoshii. Deposited in CARC.
Additions to original description. Eyes 3+3 and not separate from each other. Dorsal cephalic chaetotaxy with 5 sutural (S) ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 39 – 42 ). Lateral process of labial palp straight, as thick as normal chaetae, with tip beyond apex of labial papilla. Apical tooth on mucro much longer than subapical one ( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 39 – 42 ). Th.II with 1 (m1) medio-medial, 3 (m4, m 4i, m4p) medio-lateral, and about17 mac; mac p4 and p5 absent. Th.III with 22–25 mac and 3 (m5, a6, a 6i) mac in Gr. III ( Fig. 41 View FIGURES 39 – 42 ). Abd.I with 6 (m2–4, m 2i, a3, m4p) mac. Abd.II with 3 (m3, m3e, m3ep) central and 1 (m5) lateral mac. Abd.III with 1 (m3) central mac; lateral mac unclearly seen. Abd.IV with 7+7 (I, A5, A6, B4–6, M) central and 6+6 (D3, E2–4, E2p, F1) lateral mac ( Fig. 42 View FIGURES 39 – 42 ).
Ecology. In soil.
Distribution. Japan; China (doubtful distribution).
Remarks. S. straminea is similar to two 3+3 eyed species of Sinella from East Asia, but differs from S. wui Wang & Christiansen, 2000 in the arrangement of eyes and the length of mucronal basal spine, and from S. triocula Chen & Christiansen, 1993 in the number of central mac on Abd.III. The distribution of this species in China is doubtful. Species recorded from Beijing by Denis (1929) has long mucronal spine beyond subapical tooth, and distinctly differs from Japanese description, thus is probably synonym of S. wui which is widely distributed in northern China. Species described by Stach (1964) is probably S. triocula , because we haven’t discovered any species having 1+1 central mac on Abd.III in our expeditions of northern Chinese provinces.
