Remarks. Since the description by BolõÂvar (1899) this species was reported by Ramme (1951) and Demirsoy (1975) only on the basis of 1 from Erzurum, Azankey (?). Other specimens from central Anatolia (from Sivas, Kayseri, Ankara, CË orum and Konya) were described as Platycleis schereri by Ramme (1951) and KarabagÏ 14

at of by (1958). Also, 1 from MarasË, GoÈksun (ToÈlg leg.), the type locality of P. taurica , was identi®ed as P. schereri by Ebner (1919). After examination of many specimens and in the light of the new data, it is obvious that the records of P. schereri by Ebner (1919), Ramme (1951) and KarabagÏ (1958) from Anatolia, except from EskisËehir and IÇzmir, belong to P. taurica BolõÂvar and 1 from Erzurum, Azankey (?) to P. uvarovi KarabagÏ.

Distribution. Endemic for central and eastern parts of western Anatolia.

Song description. The calling song consisted of a long, uninterrupted sequence of echemes (up to 24 s recorded) each containing two syllables (®gure 47). Both hemisyllables of each pair were produced during the closing movement of the tegmina. The syllable pairs were produced at a rate of 12 Hz, the syllables at 38.2 Hz (at>25.5ssC).

The frequency spectrum peaked at 22 kHz (up to 100 kHz registered).

A tendency to syllable pairs was also observed in the echemes of the calling song of Platycleis (Montana) montana (Kollar, 1833) . However, in this species the pairs were not separated by larger intervals between than within the pairs as in P. taurica , but could be recognized by intensity only (Ragge and Reynolds, 1998). This sound characteristic was not observed in another recording of P. montana ( Heller, 1988) .
