Idioscopus capriliana Viraktamath & Murphy 1980: 85–87 View in CoL , figs 10–20.
Diagnosis. Crown fore margin with two round black spots; pronotum anterior submargin with one spot on either side of median line, basal triangles of mesonotum and one round spot on either side of median line anterad of scutoscutellar suture on mesonotum, black. Basal spot on forewing and apex of outer claval vein ivory. Forewing with 2 apical cells. Male pygofer with ventral process extending to almost entire length of ventral margin but not reaching dorsal margin.Aedeagal shaft in lateral view broader at base and tapered distally, curved anteriorly in distal 0.25, apex depressed plate-like.
Description. Female. Sternite VII more than twice as wide at base as long medially, posteriorly dome- shaped ( Fig. 61P View FIGURES 61 ). Valvula I curved dorsally, narrowed distally, with oblique strigae occupying more than half width of valvula and distal 0.5 length ( Figs 68 View FIGURES 68 IJ). Valvula II curved dorsally with toothed area distinct occupying about 0.4 distal length, teeth prominent, angular and widely spaced ( Figs 68 View FIGURES 68 KL).
Material examined. HOLOTYPE ♂, INDIA: Karnataka: Mudigere, 12.x.1978, C.A. Viraktamath ( UASB). Paratype. 1 ♀, same data as for holotype ( UASB). Other material: INDIA: Karnataka: 4 ♀, Biligiri Rangana Hills, 12.viii.1977, S.A. Viraktamath (3 ♀), C.A. Viraktamath (1 ♀) ( UASB).
Remarks. Viraktamath & Murphy (1981) adequately described and figured this species. This species and M. thapai have black markings on head and thorax and ivory spots on forewings. The forewing has 2 subapical cells in M. caprileana but three subapical cells in M. thapai . They also differ in the details of coloration, position of gonopore on the aedeagal shaft and arrangement of setae on the dorsal surface of the style. In M. capriliana , the gonopore is subapical, and the setae on dorsal surface of style are in distal 0.75 length whereas in M. thapai the gonopore is apical and a group of long thin setae are confined to subapical region of the style. This species has been collected on Morella esculenta (Buch. Ham. ex D. Don) T.M. Turna ( Myricaceae ).
