Description. Total body length up to 1.59 mm. Body covered with ciliated setae and hyaline and striated scales. Pale color with blue diffuse pigment areas in the antennal segments, ocular spot, lateral surface of the head and intersegmental region of the thorax III and abdominal I. Pigment more concentrated between the antennae, inverted V-shaped, on the lateral borders of the thoracic segments and of the abdominal segments I and II, two semi-circular spot in the dorsolateral region of the abdominal segment IV. Antennae slightly longer than the cephalic diagonal and only covered with ciliated setae; ratio antennae: cephalic diagonal = 1.3:1; ratio of antennal segments I:II:III:IV = 1:1.7:1.5:2.8. Antennal segment IV without apical bulb, with about 40 thin sensilla, distributed among ciliated setae from various lengths ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 - 11 ). Organ on antennal segment III formed by two curved subcylindrical sensilla and protected by two lateral sensilla and one dorsolateral sensillum ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 - 11 ). Antennal segment II with 8–10 sensilla on sub apical region and two basal microchaetae. Antennal segment I with three basal microchaetae on dorsal surface ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 - 11 ).
Elongated anterior part of the head covered with ciliated setae and small rounded scales. Labral chaetotaxy with 4/554 ciliated setae, apex of labrum with 4 rounded papillae ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 - 11 ). Five labial papillae present. Smooth labial setae, one seta M and seta r vestigial ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 - 11 ). Linea ventralis with 4+4-5+5 ciliated setae. Elongated mandible with 5 apical teeth, pars molaris with 2–3 series conical teeth and apical part with innumerous denticles ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 - 11 ); maxilla head with thin bidentate ungulum and with only three lobed, smooth lamellae without fringes ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1 - 11 ); smooth and subequal setae of maxillary palp ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 1 - 11 ). Ocular spot rounded and strongly pigmented with 8+8 eyes, G and H small; interocular chaetotaxy as in Fig. 9 View FIGURES 1 - 11 ; the row of setae between eyes and the ocular spot represented by 20 macrochaetae ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 - 11 ).
Scaleless legs with ciliated setae. Trochanteral organ V-shaped with about 11 smooth setae ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 1 - 11 ). Tibiotarsi I–III with one long and spatulate tenent hair each; claws with 2 proximal teeth in inner margin and 1 subapical tooth; empodium lanceolated; ratio claw: empodium= 1.4:1 ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 1 - 11 ). Apical face of collophore with 7–9 ciliated setae; basal face with 15+15 long and ciliated setae ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 12 – 20 ). Tenaculum with 4+4 teeth and long ciliated seta ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 12 – 20 ).
Thorax II to abdomen IV with pseudopores; abomen II with two bothriotrichia and one macrochaeta; abdomen III with three bothriotrichia and three macrochaetae; abdomen IV with two bothriotrichia and 18 macrochaetae arranged as in Figs 14–17 View FIGURES 12 – 20 . Macrochaetae on the head only in the anterior region.
Manubrium with rounded scales and setae in ventral face and only setae in dorsal face ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 12 – 20 ). Dens with apically rounded tubercle in basal region, elongated scales and ciliated setae along ventral face ( Figs 19– 20 View FIGURES 12 – 20 ). Mucro with two teeth and basal setae without spine ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 12 – 20 ); ratio manubrium: dens: mucro= 1:1:0,05.

Remarks. Rhynchocyrtus klausi gen. nov. sp. nov, widely distributed throughout forest litter and soil, was also found in sand dunes in the restinga ecosystem. Another species of the new genus, that will be described later, was collected from remnant Atlantic rainforest soil in Pernambuco State, in the Northeast Brazilian region, 2300 km far from Rio de Janeiro State as well as in the Southeast Brazilian region, extending the genus occurrence area ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 21 – 25 ). The species from the Northeast region shows the same mouth structure but it has the different color pattern ( Figs 22–23 View FIGURES 21 – 25 ) than Rhynchocyrtus klausi gen. nov. sp. nov. described and illustrated here ( Figs 24–25 View FIGURES 21 – 25 ).
