Genus Hemisciera Amyot & Audinet-Serville, 1843 View in CoL
Hemisciera Amyot & Audinet-Serville 1843: 466 View in CoL .
Type species. Cicada maculipennis de Laporte 1832: 412 View in CoL . ( French Guiana and Brazil)
REMARKS. The bright green basal area of the fore wings and bright red on the basal area of the hind wings easily distinguish species of the genus Hemisciera from all other Fidicinini .
DISTRIBUTION. The genus has been recorded from Brazil, Ecuador, French Guiana, Panama, and Peru ( Metcalf 1963a; Sanborn 2011a; 2013; 2018b; Sanborn & Heath 2014). References to Argentina and Bolivia are considered to be misinterpretations of an original source by Metcalf (1963a) and were removed recently from the cicada faunae of these countries ( Sanborn 2019b).
