Carineta illustris Distant, 1905c View in CoL
Carineta illustris Distant 1905c: 483 View in CoL . (Amazons and Iquitos, Peru)
REMARKS. Another Peruvian Carineta species with infuscation in the fore wing. Infuscation is present at the wing bases of both the fore wing and hind wing and extends to the distal anal cell 3 through anal cell 1 of the hind wing in C. illustris but is present on the apical cells of both fore and hind wings along with hind wing distal anal cell 3 in C. boliviana , C. centralis has a central fuscous spot near the distal radial cell of the hind wing along with a linear series of marginal spots in the fore wing, and C. cearana has infuscation on the distal cubital cell and clavus of the fore wing and distal apical cell 3, distal anal cell 1 and wing margin of the hind wing. The differences between C. cearana and C. illustris were described and illustrated by Sanborn (2016b).
DISTRIBUTION. The species has been reported from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru ( Metcalf 1963c; Sanborn 2013; 2019b). Metcalf (1963c) lists Amazonas, a state in Brazil, rather than the “Amazons” found in the original references. Iquitos is found in the Peruvian Amazon but many specimens in the BMNH originated in the Brazilian Amazon. Since Distant (1905c) identified the localities individually, Brazil is considered to be part of the species distribution. Jacobi (1907; 1951) reported the species from Marcapata, Peru. Pogue (1996) reported the species from Tambopata.
