REMARKS. This is a fairly large species of Carineta that can be distinguished easily from all other Peruvian species of Carineta by the reddish body coloration, the piceous spots in the ambient pronotal fissure anterior to the pronotal collar on either side of the midline, and the fact that the head and pronotum form a triangle.

DISTRIBUTION. The species has been reported from Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, and Peru ( Metcalf 1963c; Sanborn 2011a; 2013; Dias et al. 2017; Maccagnan et al. 2018) with the range recently expanded to include Bolivia ( Sanborn 2019b). Jacobi (1907; 1951) reported the species from Cumbase, Pachitea, and Vilcanota in Peru. Pogue (1996) reported the species from Tambopata.
