Genus Ahomana Distant, 1905h View in CoL
Ahomana Distant 1905h: 23 View in CoL .
Type species. Ahomana neotropicalis Distant 1905h: 24 View in CoL . (Callao, Peru)
REMARKS. Sanborn (2014b) reassigned the genus to the Carinetini in the Cicadettinae from the Tibicinini Distant, 1905d of the Tibicininae Distant, 1905d based on the venation pattern of the wings, length of hind wing cubital cell 2, pygofer upper lobe being present, small uncus and claspers being present. The genus is very similar to Carineta and was shown to have the characteristics of the Carinetini ( Sanborn 2014b) . The genus is characterized by the head being considerably narrower than the mesonotum and about as long as the pronotum, abdomen about as long as distance from apex of postclypeus to posterior cruciform elevation, absence of timbal covers, small, transversely oriented male opercula, and fore wing basal cell being only slightly longer than wide ( Distant 1905h). Species of the genus are stouter, lack the prominent anterior extension of the postclypeus, and have a thicker costal margin than species of Carineta .
DISTRIBUTION. The genus has been reported from Argentina, Chile, and Peru ( Metcalf 1963c; Sanborn 2011b; 2013; 2014b). References to Paraguay and Bolivia ( Metcalf 1963c; Sanborn 2011b; 2014b) are considered erroneous ( Sanborn 2014b).
