Eothrips Hood, 1915: 106 View in CoL . Type species: Dolerothrips crassicornis Karny View in CoL , by original designation.
Hood erected this genus without any definition or comment, but designated the type species and listed a further seven species from Java that had been described by Karny. Three of these seven have subsequently been transferred to other genera, and 13 species are now listed in Eothrips View in CoL from India, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Two syntype females of crassicornis View in CoL have been studied, together with one female (labelled male) from Vietnam that appears to be the same species. This species has the character states of a member of the Liothrips View in CoL -lineage. It tracks to Liothrips View in CoL in the key below, but has the head about as wide as long with widely spaced maxillary stylets ( Fig. 117 View FIGURES 113–117 ), and the major setae pale and elongate with capitate apices. The 13 species currently listed under this genus require further study in order to produce a clear definition of this genus, and to determine its validity.
