‒ Salsola foetida Delile View in CoL in Fl. Egypte, Illustr. No. 310: 57 (1812) nom. nud. (Art. 38.1a of ICN).
≡ Salsola foetida Delile ex Spreng. View in CoL in Syst. Veg. 1: 925 (1825).
Notes: —This is a North African–Arabian taxon conspecific with Caroxylon imbricatum (Forssk.) Akhani & E.H.Roalson (see Boulos 1991; Akhani et al. 2007). The collection by Zeyher 1448 from ‘Caput Bonae-Spei’ (Cape of Good Hope) cited by Moquin-Tandon (1849) most probably does not belong to either C. foetidum or to C. imbricatum . Wright (1912: 452) mentioned that the voucher Zeyher 1443 resembles S. foetida to some extent. The latter specimen was selected as the type of Salsola glabrescens var. apiculata (see above). The voucher Burtt Davy 12800 (BOL) was cited to represent S. foetida ( Burtt Davy 1921: 194) , however this can also be considered an erroneous identification.
