Distribution:— HIMACHAL PRADESH: Rajgarh ( Gupta et al. 1974); MAHARASHTRA: Satara ( Chavan & Barge 1977), Pune [ Cunningham 1942 reported as C. lilacina (Montagne & Berkeley in Berkeley 1845: 64) Hennings (1904: 205)]; PUNJAB: Gurdaspur (Ahmad 1941a reported as C. lilacina ).

Calvatia fragilis View in CoL which is also widely recorded in India closely resembles C. cyathiformis View in CoL (see C. cyathiformis View in CoL for discussion). Some researchers treated this species as C. cyathiformis forma fragilis ( Vittadini 1843: 180) A. H. Smith View in CoL in Smith and Zeller (1964: 150) ( Zeller & Smith 1964, Calonge et al. 2005), C. cyathiformis subsp. fragilis ( Vittadini 1843: 180) Dring (1964: 38) View in CoL ( Dring & Rayner 1967) and a synonym ( Calonge 1998) of C. cyathiformis View in CoL . However, Kreisel (1992) placed C. fragilis View in CoL as a distinct species and the contemporary researchers ( Larsson & Jeppson 2008, Bates et al. 2009, Trierveiler-Pereira & Baseia 2009, Cortez et al. 2012) also treated it as a separate species. In the present manuscript, C. fragilis View in CoL is retained as a distinct species until conclusive reports are available. Calvatia lilacina View in CoL was synonymized with C. fragilis ( Kreisel 1992) View in CoL .
