comb. nov.

Hemitrapa vassiljevii (Kornilova) Doweld , comb. nov.

Basionym:— Trapa vassiljevii Kornilova (1960: 67) .

Stratigraphy:—Miocene.

The fossil species Trapa vassiljevii Kornilova was established on the fruit remains from the Miocene sediments of Kushuk, Ulu-Zhilanchik river, Turgay depression, Kazakhstan (Central Asia). Since the fruit structure is evidently hemitrapoid, the Asian species is formally recombined into Hemitrapa .

Genus Trapa Linnaeus (1753: 120) View in CoL Trapa duensis Doweld , nom. nov. Type:— RUSSIAN FEDERATION: Kirpichnaja deep, Due port, Sakhalin Island, Kryshtofovich in 1925 (72/10946 [labelled as ‘ Hemitrapa duensis ’ nom . ined., figured by V.N. Vassiljev (in Baranov, 1954: 119, pl. 166, fig. 5)]; Central Scientific-Research Geological

Exploration Museum after S. N. Chernyshev (CNIGRMuseum), S.- Petersburg, Russian Federation).

Replaced synonym:— Trapa sachalinensis V.N. Vassiljev (in Baranov, 1954: 119), nom. illeg., non Okutsu (1939: 328).— Hemitrapa duensis V.N. Vassiljev , nom. ined.

Hemitrapa sachalinensis (Okutsu) Miki (1949: 76) .

Stratigraphy:—Tertiary.

The fossil species Trapa sachalinensis V.N. Vassiljev was described from the Tertiary deposits of Sakhalin Island (Far East, Russian Federation), although it was initially named ‘ Hemitrapa duensis ’ V.N. Vassiljev in unpublished manuscripts and passport of the original Vassiljev’s collection preserved in the Central Scientific-Research Geological Exploration Museum after S. N. Chernyshev (CNIGRMuseum) (S.- Petersburg, Russian Federation). However, this name is preoccupied by another fossil species, T. sachalinensis Okutsu (1939: 328) , described from and restricted to Sakhalin Island, then in Japan Empire (Kitakozawa, Toro-machi, Nayoshi-gun), now Tel’novskoe, Uglegorsky district, Sakhalin region, Russian Federation.
