Prosternon Latreille, 1834 .

This genus includes species formerly placed in Ctenicera and Ludius . Specimens identified as “ Prosternon sp. nr. bombycinum (Germar) ” in Seibert (1993) and post-1993 exhibit aspects of both P. bombycinum and Prosternon viduum (Brown) but with a more dorsoventrally compressed prothorax in addition to the male aedeagus being different from that of the other two species. However, due to a limited number of specimens available for examination to confirm a new species designation and allow for an accurate species description, we continue to use “ P. sp. nr. bombycinum ” pending the availability of more material. This genus requires revision.
