Most of the species within this genus recorded from Montana were expected based on range maps published in Becker (1979); however, Athous equestris (LeConte) shows a considerable westward extension of its previously known distribution. This forest species is reported as relatively rare, and the single Montana specimen collected by a Lindgren funnel trap supports this observation. We record Athous rufiventris (Eschscholtz) without a subspecies designation due to overlapping subspecies concepts in the area ( Becker 1979).
