TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, "Southern Mexico," probably Valley of Mexico .

DISTRIBUTION: WC Veracruz to Distrito Federal, Morelos, and surrounding areas, including SE Central Plateau and S Sierra Madre Oriental ( Mexico).

SYNONYMS: estor Merriam , fulvescens Merriam , irolonis Nelson and Goldman , oreocetes Merriam , peregrinus Merriam , peraltus Goldman, perotensis Merriam , saccharalis Nelson and Goldman.

COMMENTS: Subgenus Cratogeomys . Polytypic; subspecies reviewed by Russell (1968b).
