Pericoma miljenkoi Kvifte & Ivković , sp. nov.
Type material: holotype ♂. CROATIA: Plitvička jezera National Park , Barijera Kozjak-Milanovac, - VIII.2014, M. Ivković leg. (Emergence trap) . 2 paratypes ♂♂: Plitvička jezera National Park , Barijera Labudovac, - V.2014, 1 ♂, M. Ivković leg. (Emergence trap). Same, but - VIII.2014, 1 ♂.
Diagnosis: can be separated from other Pericoma by the following combination of characters: gonostylus with narrow apex of gonostylus one and a half times longer than broad base, short preapical bristle present, parameral sheath with shallow indentation, aedeagus and paramere reaching midlength of surstylus, surstyli with five tenacula. See also the key below.
Description: adult male (n=3). Head ( fig. 1A View FIGURE 1 ) slightly longer than broad, vertex one third length of total head length; eyebridge of four rows of facets, separated by width equal to 2 facet diameters; interocular suture broadly Y-shaped; 7 supraocular setae present, 4 on ventral side and 3 on dorsal side; frontal seta alveoli patch trapezoid with posterior extension 2–4 seta alveoli wide, reaching level of posterior end of eyebridge; clypeus subrectangular, fused with face, projecting slightly in front of eyes, with weak median concavity at front, its seta alveoli forming an oval patch not covering lateral margins; palp with fourth segment fleshy, corrugated, length of palp segments (n=2,3,3,3) 71: 101: 114: 147; antennae with scape, pedicel and 14 fusiform flagellomeres; scape cylindrical, pedicel globular; pedicel slightly longer than scape; flagellomeres 4–9 carrying single pair of digitiform ascoids inserted at apical half, about the third of the length of the flagellomeres they sit on; terminal flagellomere with blunt apiculus of subequal length to flagellomere body; length of antennal segments (n=3,3,3,3,3,3,3,3,3,3,2,2,2,2,2,2) 63: 65: 47: 39: 39: 42: 39: 42: 39: 37: 31: 26: 26: 24: 23: 29; Thorax without accessory organs; mesonotum and scutellum with lateral patches bare of seta alveoli, mesonotum as well with transverse bare median strip; anepisternum and laterotergite covered in seta alveoli, other pleura bare; anepisternum with short dorsal extension overlapping with sides of mesonotum; coxa and trochanter with dorsal and ventral stripes of seta alveoli, mid coxa with apicoanterior setose projection; legs with tibiae distally swollen, covered in narrow scales of varying length; tarsi 5 of all legs with dorsal projection; Wing ( fig. 1B View FIGURE 1 ) 2.075 (1.775- 2.550) mm long, 0.85 (0.75-1.00) mm wide; subovate, membrane with vague patterning; radial fork slightly distad of medial fork, CuA at level with radial fork; C with two breaks; Sc expanded distally, curving slightly towards C; wing apex between R4 and R5; medial fork incomplete; jugum obtusely V-shaped; Genitalia ( fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ) with hypandrium ( fig. 2A View FIGURE 2 ) of even width; aedeagus ( fig. 2B View FIGURE 2 ) with basiphallus compressed laterally; distiphallus consisting of two phallomeres forming a spatula with sclerotized lateral margins, margins converging distally but not meeting, aedeagal complex broadly oval in dorsal view; parameral sheath arising from gonocoxal condyles, without connection to dorsal part of gonocoxite, bilobed both basally and distally, distally with shallow median incision; parameral sclerite meeting distal section of basiphallus, jointed to parameral sheath with pair of sclerites of which one is transverse, oval, the other is U-shaped; parameral sclerite as long as distiphallus, consisting of two fused sclerites which are comparatively straight laterally, median suture complete; gonocoxites ( fig. 2C View FIGURE 2 ) stout, reniform, parabasal process present, narrowly triangular; two elongate sensilla and patch of shorter scales present mesally; gonocoxal condyles not clearly discernable from parameral sheath; gonostylus with basal 2/5 onionshaped, tapering abruptly to nearly straight distal 3/5, distally pointed with short subapical sensillum; epandrium wider than long with two sclerotized apertures, distally with drawn out corners; carrying sparse hairs on ventral surface; surstyli approximately 1.5 times length of epandrium, micropilose and softly sclerotized cercal region present on dorsal side of inner third; apex of surstylus with five aseriate tenacula of which one apical is feathery at the apex, four subapical tenacula spatulate; hypoproct obtusely isosceles trapezoid, micropilose; epiproct not discernable in examined specimens.
Distribution: known only from the Plitvička jezera National Park in Croatia.
Biology: the new species has been collected in emergence traps in a calcareous tufa barrier, where it co-occurs with Pericoma pseudocalcilega Krek and P. blandula Eaton.
Etymology: the species is named after Miljenko Ivković for his immense help in constructing the emergence traps and his constant help and always positive attitude in the field from the start of the project.
