Agonocryptus physocnemis nigristernum Gupta, 1982 . Original description, male and female, keyed, map.
Agonocryptus physocnemis nigristernum: Yu et al., 2006 . Catalog.
Variation. Pronotal collar with complete yellow stripe ( Fig. 9C View FIGURE 9 ) (vs. interrupted); mesosternum rarely (3/18) lateroposteriorly with small yellow spot; hind tibia apically blackish (vs. reddish brown); hind t4–5 blackish (vs. yellow); fore wing apically light infuscate (vs. hyaline); T1 rarely basally yellow (1/18) or brown (2/18) (vs. black); T5 with narrow posterior yellow stripe (vs. absent); areolet as long as high (vs. wider than high); second recurrent vein meeting areolet at apical 0.3–0.4 ( Fig. 9C View FIGURE 9 ) (vs. at middle).
Comments. The diagnostic features of the species, namely the clypeal groove black marked, fully black mesosternum, and T1 basally black, varied as follows. Smallest observed specimen (fore wing 7.0 mm), from Arroio Grande (Rio Grande do Sul State, southern Brazil) with mesosternum posteriorly showing two small white spots, and clypeal groove not black, concolorous with the yellowish clypeus. One specimen from Blumenau (Santa Catarina State, southern Brazil) and one from Guarapuava (Paraná State, southern Brazil) also have the mesosternum posteriorly with two small white spots; the former specimen also has the first tergite basally yellow.
Distribution. Argentina, and Brazil (Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul NR, Santa Catarina) ( Fig. 19J View FIGURE 19 ). Bootstrap analysis suggests that this species occurs typically between 100–500 m, like most Agonocryptus spp. ( Fig. 21H View FIGURE 21 ).
