Plateros brasiliensis ( Lucas, 1857)
Eros brasiliensis Lucas, 1857: 81 .
Plateros brasiliensis: Bourgeois, 1879: 19 —genus transfer and redescription Plateros brasiliensis: Bocakova, 2001: 75 — neotype designation
Material examined: Neotype of Plateros brasiliensis (Lucas) , male, Brazil: “Bras., Sao Paolo, Mráz leg.“ ( NMPC). Other material: BRAZIL: “Res. Biológica Serra do Japi, Jundiaí-SP, Nascimento E.A., Polegatto C.M., Lecci L.S. col., 26.i.2007 ”, 1 male ( DZUP); “Res. Biológica Serra do Japi, Jundiaí-SP, Nascimento E.A., Lecci L.S. col., 18.xii.2007 ”, 1 female ( DZUP).
Diagnosis: P. brasiliensis ( Lucas, 1857) can be differentiated from P. curtebilineatus by the shape of genitalia and by the presence of longitudinal dark brown spots at elytral apex.
Redescription: Body with ventral surface dark brown. Head dark brown presenting prominent eyes in male with eye diameter 1.3x longer than interocular distance, female eyes small with eye diameter as long as interocular distance. Antennae serrate in male, subserrate in female, antennomere 4 as long as 5, about 1.3–1.4x longer than 3. Mandibles stout, labial palpi short, maxillary palpi elongate, terminal palpomere 1.1x longer than 4 and 1.8x longer than palpomere 3. Pronotum subpentagonal, 1.1x wider than long medially, widest at basal margin with posterior angles projected laterally and bisinuate, median longitudinal line channelled basally. Pronotum yellow with dark brown spot at apical ½ and two dark brown longitudinal stripes in mediobasal portion. Scutellum dark brown, oblong, with shallow distal emargination in male, straight distally in female. Elytra yellow with dark brown spot at distal 1/7, pubescent, each elytron with 9 costae, primary costae stronger, regular reticulate cells subsquare. Prosternum triangular, transverse, mesosternum trapezoidal, transverse. Legs compressed, trochanters yellow. Femora dark brown with proximal half yellow, 1.1x longer than tibiae, trochanter about ¼ of femur length. Male genitalia with phallus elongate, slightly constricted medially and apically in ventral view, apex rounded, distal half bent dorsally in lateral view ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 – 12 ). Female genitalia with long coxites, superimposed at ¾, projected dorsally and medially to accommodate the proctiger. Valvifers reduced, partially integrated to coxites, as long as ½ of coxites length. Proctiger well developed, styli small ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 1 – 12 ). Body length: 7.5–8.0 mm (male), 7 mm (female), humeral width: 1.8–1.9 mm (male), 1.5 mm (female).
Distribution: Brazil (Southeastern region, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro states)
Remark: The genus Plateros was described by Bourgeois (1879) to accommodate some American species from Eros Newmann, 1838 , including Eros brasiliensis Lucas, 1857 . Bocakova (2001) designated the neotype for P. brasiliensis .
