Plateros plaumanni nom. n.
pro Sculptocalleros discithorax Pic, 1949 nec Ditoneces discithorax Pic, 1926 Sculptocalleros discithorax Pic, 1949: 5 — syn.n.
Type material. Holotype, male, BRAZIL “Rio Gr. do Sul, coll. Rich.Hicker” without other data ( MNHN). Other material: male, BRAZIL, “ 7-xi-1949, Nova Teutonia, 27°11’B 52°23’L, 300bis 500m, Fritz Plaumann [leg.]” ( MZSP).
Diagnosis: P. plaumanni differs from other Plateros by presenting dark pronotum almost rectangular with circular yellow spot at the center and by the shape of genitalia.
Redescription: Body with ventral surface dark brown. Head dark brown, eyes small, interocular distance 1.5x longer than eye diameter. Antennae subserrate, antennomere 4 as long as 5, 1.2x longer than antennomere 3. Mandibles stout, arcuate, labial palpi short, terminal palpomere securiform, maxillary palpi elongate, palpomere 4 securiform, as long as wide, 2x longer than palpomere 3. Pronotum almost rectangular, 1.25 larger than long, posterior angles projected laterally, presenting carina at apical ½ followed by a median channel, basal margin slightly bisinuate. Pronotum dark brown with yellow spot at center. Scutellum dark brown with shallow median emargination apically. Elytra dark brown, with 9 costa, primary costae strong, secondary costae hardly visible, with irregular reticulate cells. Prosternum and mesosternum trapezoidal. Legs compressed, dark brown, femur as long as tibia, ½ as long as trochanter. Abdominal sternum 8 with median emargination distally, abdominal sternum 9 elongate, rounded distally, pointed apically. Phallus broad at basal ¼ in lateral view, slightly curved dorsally at apex, broader apically in ventral view, pointed distally with spine-like projection proximally. Phallobase quite asymmetrical, longer than large, with lateral projections pointed at apical ½ ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 1 – 12 ). Body length: 6.1 mm, humeral width: 1.5 mm.
Distribution: Brazil (Southern region, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul States).
Etymology: species name after Fritz Plaumann, a great entomologist who lived in Southern Brazil and contributed much to science. Moreover, he collected many individuals of this species.
Remark: Bocakova (2001) synonymized many genera with Plateros , but she had not found the type of Sculptocalleros in Pic’s collection, and therefore, Sculptocalleros remained valid. Based mainly on male genitalia, monotypic Sculptocalleros Pic, 1949 is now considered as a junior synonym of Plateros Bourgeois, 1879 . Moreover, Sculptocalleros discithorax Pic, 1949 (now in Plateros ) became a junior secondary homonym of preoccupied Plateros discithorax (Pic, 1926) , originally described in Ditoneces Waterhouse, 1879 . Therefore, a new replacement name Plateros plaumanni nom.n. for Sculptocalleros discithorax Pic, 1949 is proposed.
