TYPE SPECIES: Crossarchus dybowskii Pousargues, 1893 , by original designation.

COMMENTS: Revised by Hayman (1936). Although originally placed in Crossarchus , most since Hayman (1936) believed this genus to be the sister group to Helogale ; Allen (1924) identified some specimens of this taxon as Helogale hirtula robusta .
