Mungos mungo (Gmelin, 1788) View in CoL . In Linnaeus, Syst. Nat., 13th ed., 1:84.
TYPE LOCALITY: "Bengala, Persia, aliisque asiae", restricted by Ogilby (1835:101) to " Gambia ". However, Thomas (1882) believed it to be in the eastern part of South Africa, Cape Prov., as did Roberts (1929) .
DISTRIBUTION: Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zaire, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
