TYPE LOCALITY: "ad Scotiam atque Groelandiam australiorem, vulgaris circa Islandiam" [North Atlantic, S Greenland] .

DISTRIBUTION: Circumpolar Arctic seas ( Canada, Greenland, Japan, Norway, USA, republics of the former USSR), south to Hokkaido ( Japan) and Newfoundland.

SYNONYMS: albigena Pallas, 1811 ; lepechenii Lesson, 1828 ; leporina Lepechin, 1778 ; nautica Pallas, 1811; parsonii Lesson, 1828 .
