TYPE LOCALITY: "L'ile Decrès" [ Australia, South Australia, Kangaroo Isl] .
DISTRIBUTION: Houtmans Abrolhos (Western Australia) to Kangaroo Isl (South Australia).
SYNONYMS: albicollis Péron, 1816; australis Quoy and Gaimard, 1830 ; forsteri Wood Jones, 1992 (not Lesson, 1828); hookeri Gray, 1844 ; lobatus Gray, 1828 ; williamsi McCoy, 1877.
COMMENTS: Allen (1880:203-204) questioned the validity of the type description. Reviewed by Ling (1992, Mammalian Species, 392).
