Type: — MYANMAR: Chappedong, Wallich 6639 A (lectotype designated here G-DC G 00206464 image!).
Piper pothiforme C. DC. Prodr. 16: 351. 1869 syn. nov.
Type:— MYANMAR: Chappedong, Wallich 6639 B (lectotype designated here CAL!).
Distribution:— INDIA: Arunachal Pradesh; MYANMAR.
Note: —At G-DC there is one sheet bearing both Wallich 6639A & 6639B from Chappedong, but with the name Piper pothoides Wall. The single specimen bears leaves and a part of a mature fruit. CAL has a sheet, included as
Wallich 6639B from Chappedong and bears the annotation as Piper pothiforme Wall. All the specimens have leaves similar to t. 38 in Miquel (1845). Curiously, at G-DC, there is another specimen with the number Wallich 6639B? from Chappedong named as Piper pothoides Wall. It is quite different and is excluded from consideration of typification.
This species has been reported by Gajurel et al. (2008) from Arunachal Pradesh. The present author has seen a specimen at CAL collected from Debang valley, Arunachal Pradesh by the late Dr. M. K. Pathak at CAL, but it has not been incorporated formally in the herbarium.
