Lectotype (White in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 43. 1993): Herb. Burser XXIII: 54 ( UPS) .

Generitype of Diospyros Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 194. 1929).

Current name: Diospyros lotus L. View in CoL ( Ebenaceae ).

Note: A detailed discussion of the early description of this plant is given by Carder (in Curtis’s Bot. Mag. 180: 165-168. 1976), who says it is based on a Clifford specimen "and other elements". Ghazanfar (in Nair & Ali, Fl. W. Pakistan 116: 3. 1978) stated "Type: LINN 1231.102", presumably in error for “1231.1–2”. These two sheets in LINN are not part of the same gathering, so Art. 9.15 does not apply.
