Type Locality: Perú, Huanuco Dept., haciendas along the Río Chinchao, 900-1000 m (as discussed by Hershkovitz, 1940:81; formal fixation necessary).

Vernacular Names: Tschudi's Colilargo.

Synonyms: Oligoryzomys maranonicus (Osgood 1914) ; Oligoryzomys melanostoma (Tschudi 1844) ; Oligoryzomys spodiurus ( Hershkovitz 1940) ; Oligoryzomys stolzmanni ( Thomas 1894) .

Distribution: E Andean slopes of S Colombia, through Ecuador, Perú, and WC Bolivia (see Anderson, 1997:Fig. 691), to NW Argentina (Tucumán Prov. as per OMNH 1062, 1106, 1140, 2205, 2239, 2734).

Conservation: IUCN – Data Deficient.

Discussion: Considered a subspecies of O. longicaudatus by Gyldenstolpe (1932) and Cabrera (1961); provisionally resurrected as species by Carleton and Musser (1989). Karyotype reported by Gardner and Patton (1976) as Oryzomys longicaudatus variant (4). Distributional limits, validity of included synonyms, and relationships to other Andean species all require detailed investigation.
