Type Locality: Brazil, Pará, Rio Capim.

Vernacular Names: Red-handed Howler.

Synonyms: Alouatta beelzebub (Bechstein 1800) ; Alouatta discolor (Spix 1823) ; Alouatta flavimanus (Bates 1863) ; Alouatta mexianae (Hagmann 1908) ; Alouatta rufimanus (Kuhl 1820) ; Alouatta tapojozensis Lönnberg 1941 ; Alouatta ululata Elliot 1912 .

Distribution: N Brazil (mainly south of Lower Amazon, east of Rio Madeira); Mexiana Isl ( Brazil); in Pará Prov. ( Brazil), north of Amazon.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Critically Endangered as A. b. ululata , otherwise Lower Risk (lc) as A. belezebul (sic).

Discussion: A. seniculus species group. Does not include nigerrima ( Groves, 2001 c).
