Diagnosis. Nemophora chalybeella is similar to N. lapikella Kozlov, 1997 and N. biprocessa sp. nov. in the forewing pattern. It can be distinguished by having a dome-shaped uncus, which is triangular in N. biprocessa and subtriangular in N. lapikella . Nemophora chalybeella can be further distinguished from N. lapikella by the forewing without a black speckle at the base of the wing, and in the male genitalia by the ventral margin of the valva vertically straight from basal 1/4 to middle. In N. lapikella , the forewing has a black speckle between Sc and the anterior margin of the cell; in the male genitalia, the ventral margin of the valva is obliquely straight from basal 1/4 to middle. The differences between N. chalybeella and N. biprocessa are stated in the diagnosis of the latter species.
Description. Adult ( Figs 8, 9 View FIGURES 7‒12 ). Male wingspan 18.0−22.0 mm.
Head: Vertex yellow; frons purplish bronzy. Eye interocular index 0.43−0.47. Proboscis yellow. Labial palpus 1.2−1.7 × vertical eye diameter; first and second palpomeres yellow, with dark brown hairs; third palpomere dark brown. Antenna 3.2−3.6 × length of forewing; scape bronzy; flagellum yellowish brown except dark brown in basal 1/6.
Thorax: Mesonotum golden yellow; tegula bronzy. Forewing ground color brownish yellow from base to inner fascia, purplish bronzy from beyond outer fascia to apex; four silvery gray streaks, edged with black scales: first streak from base to near middle along costal margin, second streak from middle to distal 1/5 of cell along anterior margin, third streak from base to 3/4 of cell along posterior margin, fourth streak from near base to 2/5 of wing along 1A+2A; four black lines: first line from base to 2/5 of wing along R 1, second line from basal 1/4 to 3/5 of cell, third line from near base to beyond 2/5 of wing along CuP, fourth line from base to beyond middle along dorsum; inner and outer fasciae silvery gray, inner fascia slightly sinuate, outer fascia almost straight, medial fascia yellow, slightly sinuate or straight, edged with dark brown scales; brownish yellow fascia from near distal 1/4 of costal margin to beyond tornus, with six brownish yellow stripes radiating toward apex, edged with black scales; fringe brown. Hindwing grayish brown except light brown between costal margin and Rs; fringe brown. Foreleg yellow ventrally, purplish bronzy dorsally; midleg yellow except tibia purplish bronzy dorsally; hindleg yellow except tibia bronzy apically. Epiphysis dark brown, at middle of tibia, not reaching apex of tibia.
Abdomen: Dark brown.
Female wingspan 16.0−18.0 mm. Antenna same length as forewing, thickened by black scales up to basal 2/5, grayish white distally. Otherwise, similar to male.
Male genitalia ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 33‒38 ). Socius ovoid, length 1.9 × width. Tegumen without median ridge. Uncus dome-shaped. Valva fused for basal 1/4, narrowly rounded at apex, straight on costal margin, obliquely straight except vertically straight from basal 1/4 to middle on ventral margin; sacculus reaching basal 1/4 of ventral margin. Transtilla with a triangular emargination anteromedially, with subtriangular processes anterolaterally; median process spiniform, reaching posterior 1/3 of tegumen apically. Vinculum 2.9 × length of valva, narrowly rounded anteriorly. Phallus 1.2 × length of vinculum, with a pair of sclerotized belts from distal 1/4 to near apex and spines from distal 2/7 to 1/10 ( Fig. 33a View FIGURES 33‒38 ). Juxta 0.47 × length of phallus; lateral arm 0.15 × length of arrow head.
Female genitalia ( Fig. 49 View FIGURES 48‒50 ). Apophyses posteriores slightly longer than apophyses anteriores; apophyses anteriores fused with eighth tergum in posterior 2/5, 2.1 × length of seventh tergum. Eighth tergum triangularly produced anteromedially. Antrum from near anterior margin to 1/4 of eighth sternum. Seventh tergum narrowly rounded posteriorly. Vestibulum weakly sclerotized. Ductus bursae 0.35 × length of vestibulum, 0.54 × length of corpus bursae. Corpus bursae elongate ovoid.
Distribution. China ( Beijing, Gansu, Hebei, Henan, Liaoning, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Sichuan, Tianjin), Russia, South Korea.
Remarks. This species is recorded for the first time in China.
