Terrestrial trees. Distribution in PILA 1400–2400 m, mixed forest in transition to cloud forest, cloud forest, low elevation oak forest. Global distribution: Endemic to Costa Rica. Records: L. Acosta 2423 ( INB) .

Según Hammel esa especie corresponde a Ocotea insularis .
