63. Caroxylon nollothense (Aellen) Mucina View in CoL comb. nov. ( Fig. 1, G)

Basionym: ― Salsola nollothensis Aellen View in CoL in Mitt. Bot. Staatssamml. München 4: 24 (1961).

Type: ― SOUTH AFRICA. Cape Colony [Northern Cape Prov.]: Port Nolloth , 17 January 1907, Galpin & Pearson 7545 (holotype PRE 0375576-1 About PRE ! & PRE 0375576-2 About PRE !; isotypes K-000243909!, NBG-SAM0001675-0!) .

Salsola bullata Fenzl ex Drège in Flora 26(29), Beigabe: 94, 217 (1843), nom. nud. (Art. 38.1a of ICN).

Salsola candida Schinz in Bull. Herb. Boiss. 5, App. 3: 62 (1897) nom. nud. (Art. 38.1a of ICN), non S. candida Fenzl ex Moq. in DC. Prodr. 13(2): 191 (1849).

Salsola flexuosa C.A.Sm. ex Ulbr. in Engl. & Prantl in Natürl. Pflanzenfam., ed. 2, 16c: 566 (1934), nom. nud. (Art. 38.1a of ICN).

Caroxylon sp. M: Mucina & Snijman in Plants of the Greater Cape Floristic Region. Vol. 2: The Extra Cape flora: 235 (2013).

Notes: ― The collection SAM0001675-0! (isotype of this taxon) is erroneously featured as an isotype of Salsola zeyheri View in CoL in the http://plants.jstor.org depository. Wright (1912: 453–454) listed S. bullata View in CoL as an imperfectly known species and cited a Drège specimen (herbarium lodging unknown) collected in the Orange (Gariep) River mouth. The voucher Z-000002799! (K. Dinter 5995, Lüderitzbucht) is designated as paratype on a voucher sheet in Z; this choice was not very fortunate since Z-000002799! Is not from the locus classicius of C. nollothense View in CoL (Port Nolloth, South Africa).

Distribution: ― Namibia : Namib coast (from Oranjemund as far north as Skeleton Coast); Namibian inland collections ascribed to this taxon have most probably been misidentified; South Africa (NC): Richtersveld coast. Ulbrich (1934: 566) claims that this taxon occurs as far north as Angola.
