Description
Identical to that of S. fistularium .
Material examined
Brazil: Maranhão State: city of Alcântara, S .C. Buys and C .A. Andrade, 27 February 2001: one cocoon collected from a natural nest; Rio de Janeiro State: city of Rio de Janeiro ( Serra do Mendanha ): S . Buys , January 2000: six cocoons collected from natural nests .
Remarks
The cocoons of S. fistularium and of S. asiaticum are indistinguishable from one another and similar to those of other species of the genus illustrated in the literature, namely S. caementarium (Drury, 1773) ( Rau 1915) , S. spirifex (Linnaeus, 1758) ( Grandi 1961) and S. (Prosceliphron) curvatum (F. Smith, 1870) ( Gepp and Bregant 1986) .
