Type Locality: Panama, San Miguel Isl.
Vernacular Names: Rufous Soft-furred Spiny-rat.
Synonyms: Diplomys darlingi ( Goldman 1913) .
Distribution: Panama (including San Miguel Isl), W Colombia, and (probably) N Ecuador.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc). Locally common.
Discussion: Includes darlingi ( Handley, 1966 a:787; Hall, 1981:874).
