Distribution. Japan, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam (cf. Table 1 ).

Remarks. Uca borealis is similar to U. vocans and U. jocelynae Shih, Naruse & Ng, 2010 , all of which are sometimes sympatric (Shih et al. 2010). Uca borealis and U. vocans were here collected at the same locality at Wenchang, in the south of eastern Hainan. The males of the three species are easily distinguished by the morphologies of the male major cheliped and G1 (Shih et al. 2010). Females can be distinguished by the structures of the gonopores ( Crane 1975: fig. 64). Biogeographically, U. borealis occurs in mainland Japan, Taiwan (including Penghu), Southeast and South China (Fujian; Guangdong; Guangxi; northern Hainan), and northern Vietnam ( Table 1 ).
