Materials examined. See table 3.
Description of female. Head length subequal to height, as long as combined length of pereonites 1–2, plus one-quarter of pereonite 3, nearly square-shaped when viewed laterally. Rostrum short, about one-tenth of the length of remainder of the head. Eyes large, well packed with ocelli, kidney-shaped, height nearly twice length which is 0.4 times (about 0.5 times in male) as long as head. Antenna 1 length equal to combined length of head and one-half of pereonite 1; flagellum oval (narrower distally in male), 2.6 times as long as peduncle, 1.5 times height. Maxilliped with fused inner lobes reaching proximal third of outer lobe; margins of outer lobes nearly parallel, inner margin straight, with short teeth on proximal three-quarters; outer margin rounded distally, smooth with about six fine setae.
Body robust with heavy exoskeleton. Pereon one-third longer than pleon, height increasing posteriorly, pereonite 7 about 1.6 times as high as pereonite 1. Coxae increasing in length from pereonite 1 to 4, then decreasing to 7; ventral margin of coxae 5 and 6 with a notch in mid-length. Pereopod 1 simple, anterior margin of basis slightly convex, propus with posterior margin finely serrated, distal margin as wide as dactyl. Pereopod 2 chelate, propus with posterior margin finely serrated, carpal process reaching to distal margin of propus. Pereopod 5 about 1.2 times as long as pereopod 3, basis as long as ischium and merus combined, propus threequarters as long as merus and carpus combined and 0.8 times as long as basis. Pereopod 6 carpus, anterior margin with seven spines. Pereopod 7 with complete segmentation, basis 0.7 times as long as ischium to dactyl combined, posterior margin strongly expanded, posterodistal lobe reaching nearly half way along posterior margin of merus, anterior margin of carpus and propus minutely scaled, very slightly produced at anterodistal corner, dactyl rounded distally and covered in minute scales.
Pleon about three times as long as urosome, pleonites 1–3 subequal in length. Posterodistal corner of pleonite 1 rounded, of pleonites 2 and 3 angular.
Urosomites 2 and 3 fused, laterodistal corners produced. Uropod 1 protopod 1.6 times as long as exopod, distal two-thirds of outer margin of protopod with teeth. Uropod 3 protopod 1.1 times as long as exopod, 1.6 times as wide, both margins of endopod and inner margin of exopod finely serrated. Telson separate from double urosomite, rounded, 1.1 times as broad as long.
Size. Female: 4.36–13.10 mm; male: 9.92–13.60 mm.
Distribution. Pacific Ocean: tropical waters. Our records have significantly extended the distribution range of this species in the Pacific. In the present study this species was found in nine samples from the surface to 225 m, 13°– 18°N and 98°– 120°W.
