Diagnosis
Head not elongate, subrectangular; eyes absent; antennae without calceoli; antenna 1 peduncle article 2 longer than 1, article 3 the shortest; accessory flagellum articles 1–2 subequal in length, elongate, article 3 vestigial; pleonal and first two urosomal segments dorsally toothed; coxae 1–7 posteroventral notched, coxa 4 without posterior lobe; gnathopods palmar margin oblique; gnathopod 2 larger and stronger in male; uropod 1 peduncle with robust distal seta, an interramal spiniform process; uropod 3 biramous, outer ramus article 2 longer than inner, inner ramus subequal in length to peduncle width; epimera with posteroventral point; telson deeply cleft, each inner lobe margin with 1 robust seta midway; apical setae absent.
Type species
Bathypisella spinicaudata View in CoL sp. nov. by monotypy (new combination, here selected; female gender).
Etymology
Named for the combination of Bathy (a prefix derived from the Greek ‘bathus’ meaning ‘deep’) with the suffix pisella (a Latin name from Eriopisella , the type genus of the second group of Eriopisidae ).
