S. orientale eurhinus (Tubangui, 1932) View in CoL n. comb.
Type host. Common greenshank, Tringa totanus (Linnaeus) (Syn. Totanus eurhinus Oberholaer ) ( Charadriiformes : Scolopacidae ).
Type locality. Obando, Bulacan, Luzon, Republic of the Philippines.
Previously proposed synonym. Cyclocoelum obscurum ( Leidy, 1887) —Tubangui (1932).
Remarks. This species was originally described as Cyclocoelum (Postpharyngeum) orientale var eurhinus Tubangui, 1932 , but this subspecies (variety) as originally described has an intertesticular ovary that forms a triangle with the testes (Cyclocoelinae), appears to have a post-pharyngeal genital pore and vitelline fields are described as not being confluent posteriorly (“separated only by excretory vesicle”), placing it in Selfcoelum . However, Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 4 of Plate 1 in the original description by Tubangui (1932) appears to show the vitelline fields as being confluent posteriorly, which would place this species in Psophiatrema. It differs from S. orientale ( Skrjabin, 1913) n. comb. in egg size (116–140 x 77 –79 compared to 147–151 x 78 –82) and likely represents a distinct species; however, corroboration of this species and its genus assignment is unlikely without access to deposited material. We could find only one specimen (#14) listed of this species in the Philippine Bureau of Science Parasitological Collection. We have included this subspecies (species) in the key to the species of Selfcoelum , and until there is resolution as to the posterior distribution of the vitelline fields, we have tentatively retained this subspecies in Selfcoelum . Although we feel it is likely not S. orientale ( Skrjabin, 1913) n. comb., because of taxonomic confusion we have not renamed this species. No oral or ventral sucker described—Tubangui (1932).
