Type host. Spotted sandpiper, Actitis macularius Linnaeus ( Charadriiformes : Scolopacidae ).

Type locality. Laguna de Los Patos, Cumana, Venezuela.

Remarks. This species has a pretesticular ovary that forms a triangle with the testes (Haematotrephinae), and was described as having the genital pore near the mid-level of the pharynx (likely prepharyngeal) placing it in Neohaematotrephus. The vitelline fields were described as being confluent posteriorly, as is the case in species of Neohaematotrephus; however, the vitelline fields were illustrated in the holotype ( Fig. 1 ) as being not confluent. If the vitelline fields are not confluent, this species would be assigned to Harrahium . It is possible that the confluence of the vitelline fields was not visible in the particular specimen used for the illustration or that the specimen was abnormal in this respect (see the discussion of variability in the posterior extent of the vitelline fields given later). Due to the recent move of the USNPC to the Smithsonian, specimens of this species were not available. Rudimentary oral sucker present—Zamparo & Brooks (2006).
