Type host. Common or Eurasian crane, Grus grus (Linnaeus) ( Gruiformes : Gruidae ).
Type locality. Europe; specific type locality unknown.
Additional hosts. Grey heron, Ardea cinerea Linnaeus (given as the great grey crane or heron, Grus cinerea Bechstein ) ( Pelecaniformes : Ardeidae )— Stossich (1902); unidentified gruiform—Bona et al. (1995).
Additional localities. Siberia, Russian Federation, specific locality unknown—Stossich (1902); Italy—Bona et al. (1995).
Previously proposed synonyms. Hyptiasmus adolphi ( Stossich, 1902) ; Hyptiasmus ominosus Kossack, 1911 (= A. ominosus [ Kossack, 1911])— Joyeux & Baer (1927).
Remarks. Stossich (1902) provided a minimal description of Cyclocoelum adolphi Stossich, 1902 (body length only). Kossack (1911) added some additional information, but he considered this species to belong in Hyptiasmus . Yamaguti (1971) credited Sprehn (1932) for its transfer to Hyptiasmus . This species was considered to be in Allopyge by Bashkirova (1950), Yamaguti (1958, 1971) and Dronen & Blend (2005). No oral or ventral sucker described—Stossich (1902).
