M. bivesiculatum ( Prudhoe, 1944) View in CoL

Type host. Brown-headed or Ceylon or large green barbet, Megalaima zeylanica (Gmelin) (Syn. Cyanops zeylonica [Gmelin]) ( Piciformes : Megalaimidae ); given as Thereiceryx zeylanicus (Gmelin) by Prudhoe (1944).

Type locality. Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon); specific type location unknown.

Additional host. Common blackbird, Turdus merula Linnaeus (Syn. Merula merula Linnaeus) ( Passeriformes : Turdidae )— Pavlovskaya (1962).

Additional locality. USSR ( CIS)— Pavlovskaya (1962).

Remarks. This species was originally described as Cyclocoelum bivesiculatum Prudhoe, 1944 . It was considered to be a synonym of Cyclocoelum obscurum ( Leidy, 1887) by Macko (1964) and transferred to Morishitium by Yamaguti (1958). This species originally was described from a barbet in Sri Lanka, and beyond egg size and some subtle differences in the anterior extent of the vitelline fields, it is difficult to distinguish this species from Morishitium polonicum ( Machalska, 1980) n. comb., which was originally reported from a thrush in Poland. Morishitium polonicum n. comb. may be synonymous with M. bivesiculatum . Rudimentary oral sucker present— Prudhoe (1944); Bashkirova (1950).
