Mannheimsia Beyer, 1965 View in CoL
Mannheimsia Beyer, 1965: 28 View in CoL . Type species: M. stricta Beyer, 1965 View in CoL (by monotypy). Chouomyia Liu, 1995: 185 ; Mostovski, 1997: 876; Brown, 2005: 133 View Cited Treatment (syn.).
Diagnosis. The new material examined allows the following additions to Brown’s diagnosis of Mannheimsia ( Brown 2005) : median furrow absent, flagellomere 1 globose or conical-elongate, 4–6 genal setae present, hind tibia with 1–2 large setae. Base of wing vein Rs with 1–2 setae. Except in the highly modified wing of M. tianzena , M1 slightly sinuous, posteriorly directed; M2 slightly sinuous or concave; CuA1 sinuous. Halter with apical black knob. Tergite 6 extending laterally on the abdomen. Hypoproct with two setae. Phallus. Basiphallus with no projections. Right arm extending from the dorsum to the right lateral, venter and half of the left lateral part of the phallus, adjacent to the basiphallus. Epiphallus transparent, with many rounded protuberances, connecting to the right arm in the left lateral. Epiphallus sometimes extends in a posterior transparent lobe. Core plate dorsally curved, highly varied in shape, with 1–3 long, dorsally-directed processes connected to its base.
Comments. The Mannheimsia phallus is a highly variable structure between the genus species, what makes homology proposals difficult. The homologies proposed in this study are the ones that best fit in the position and special similarity criteria, but the subject must still be considered open to investigation, as there are other almost equally conceivable hypotheses of homology possible.
