Scydmaenus chinensis Franz, 1988: 23 View in CoL .
Scydmaenus (Scydmaenus) chinensis Franz View in CoL ; Vít, 2004: 226.
( Figs 1–6 View FIGURES 1–6 )
Type material examined. Holotype ( CHINA): ♂, three labels ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1–6 ): “ Sichuan, Leshan / June , X. 1986 ” [white, handwritten], “ Scydmaenus / chinensis m. / det. H.Franz ” [white, handwritten and printed], “ Holotypus ” [red, handwritten] ( NHMW) . Paratypes: 5 ♂♂, same data as for holotype ( NHMW) ; 1 ♂, “CHINA / YUNNAN: Shi Lin / 8: X:1985 / Rougemont ” [white, printed and handwritten]; all paratypes with yellow “ PARATYPUS ” labels ( NHMW) .
Revised diagnosis. Male. Legs and metaventrite unmodified; head and pronotum impunctate; head slightly broader than long, with large eyes; tempora in dorsal view slightly less than twice as long as eye; pronotum indistinctly longer than broad, with four distinct antebasal pits; aedeagus in dorsal view nearly parallel-sided with only slightly tapering and truncate apex with tiny denticle on right distal corner, in lateral view median lobe bent at an obtuse angle near middle, with apex forming small hook curved dorsad, sides of ostium with rows of long setae; endophallus with strongly elongate projection bifurcate in distal third.
Redescription. Body of male ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–6 ) elongate and strongly convex, uniformly brown, covered with light brown setae; BL 1.83–1.90 mm.
Head in dorsal view broadest at eyes, slightly transverse, HL 0.31–0.38 mm, HW 0.35–0.55 mm; vertex and frons confluent, evenly convex; supraantennal tubercles feebly marked; tempora in dorsal view slightly less than twice as long as eye, eyes weakly convex, in lateral view only slightly oval. Dorsal surface of head impunctate and covered with sparse, short and suberect setae. Antennae slender, AnL 0.93–1.00 mm; scape and pedicel strongly elongate, antennomeres 3–6 each elongate (5 strongly, 6 indistinctly so), 7–8 each distinctly transverse and slightly asymmetrical, 9–10 each about as long as broad, 11 indistinctly shorter than 9–10 combined, about twice as long as broad.
Pronotum in dorsal view broadest near anterior fourth; PL 0.50–0.55 mm, PW 0.48–0.53 mm; anterior margin and sides in anterior third rounded, sides in posterior half indistinctly rounded and strongly converging posterad; posterior margin nearly straight; base with two pairs of small but deep and sharply marked pits, distance between inner pair slightly wider than between inner and outer pit. Pronotal disc virtually impunctate and glossy; setae short, sparse and erect.
Elytra together oval, broadest near middle, EL 0.95–1.03 mm, EW 0.78–0.83 mm, EI 1.21–1.25. Humeral calli prominent; basal impressions short but distinct, suture just behind elytral base distinctly raised and demarcated by shallow groove at each side; elytral apices separately rounded. Elytra covered with superficial, fine indistinct punctures; setae distinctly thicker than those on head and pronotum, moderately dense and long, suberect, forming on each elytron distinct waving pattern, with those on anterior half directed posterad, those on sides in posterior 2/3 directed posterolaterad and on apices again posterad. Hind wings present, functional.
Legs moderately long, robust, lacking any peculiar modifications except for moderately broadened protarsomeres.
Metaventrite unmodified.
Aedeagus ( Figs 2–5 View FIGURES 1–6 ) strongly elongate, AeL 0.45 mm; median lobe in dorsal view nearly parallel-sided with only slightly narrowing and truncate apex, with tiny denticle on right distal corner; apical margin straight; in lateral view basal half of median lobe much broader than distal half, bent at an obtuse angle near middle, distal half recurved and with apical hook-like projection curved dorsad, lateral margin of ostium with rows of long setae directed dorsad, endophallus with strongly elongate projection bifurcate in distal third.
Female. Unknown.
Distribution. Sichuan and Yunnan.
