Scydmaenus (Scydmaenus) fukiensis Franz View in CoL

Scydmaenus (Scydmaenus) fukiensis Franz, 1985: 116 View in CoL .

( Figs 7–12 View FIGURES 7–12 )

Type material examined. Holotype ( CHINA): ♂, three labels ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 7–12 ): “KUATUN,FUKIEN / China 5.4.46 / (TSCHUNG SEN.)” [white, printed and handwritten], “ Scydmaenus / fukiensis m. / det. H.Franz ” [white, handwritten and printed], “ Holotypus ” [red, handwritten] ( NHMW).

Revised diagnosis. Male. Legs and metaventrite unmodified; entire dorsal side distinctly and densely punctate, with most distinct punctures on head, but with narrow median longitudinal area on vertex and frons impunctate; head distinctly elongate, with small eyes; tempora in dorsal view nearly 2.5 × as long as eye; pronotum slightly longer than broad, with five distinct antebasal pits; aedeagus in dorsal view with two shallow and broad constrictions, one in sub-basal and one in subapical region, apex with distinct median emargination separating rounded lateral lobes, in lateral view median lobe bent at an obtuse angle near middle, with apical region additionally slightly bent dorsad; sides of ostium lacking rows of setae, endophallus with strongly elongate but relatively broad projection with rapidly narrowed, subtriangular and pointed apex.

Redescription. Body of male ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7–12 ) elongate and strongly convex, uniformly brown, covered with light brown setae; BL 2.45 mm.

Head in dorsal view broadest at eyes, distinctly elongate, HL 0.50 mm, HW 0.43 mm; vertex and frons confluent, evenly convex; supraantennal tubercles feebly marked; tempora in dorsal view nearly 2.5 × as long as eye; eye weakly convex, in lateral view only slightly oval. Narrow median longitudinal area on vertex and frons impunctate, sides covered with small but sharply marked and dense punctures separated by spaces clearly narrower than their diameters; setae short, sparse and suberect. Antenna slender, AnL 1.30 mm; scape and pedicel strongly elongate, antennomeres 3–8 each elongate (3 and 5 strongly, 4 and 6–8 weakly so; 7 and 8 symmetrical), 9–10 each about as long as broad, 11 slightly shorter than 9–10 combined, 1.8 × long as broad.

Pronotum in dorsal view broadest near anterior third; PL 0.65 mm, PW 0.58 mm; anterior margin and sides in anterior third rounded, sides in posterior half straight and strongly converging posterad; posterior margin nearly straight; base with two lateral pairs of small but deep and sharply marked pits and with additional similarly distinct median pit, distances between all pits subequal. Pronotal disc with punctures smaller and shallower than those on sides of head, but distinct, sharply marked, and separated by spaces narrower than their diameters; setae short, sparse and erect.

Elytra together oval, broadest indistinctly in front of middle, EL 1.30 mm, EW 0.98 mm, EI 1.33. Humeral calli prominent; basal impressions short but distinct, anterior portion of suture not elevated and not demarcated by grooves; elytral apices separately rounded. Elytra covered with punctures similar to those on pronotum but slightly sparser; setae slightly thicker than those on head and pronotum and longer than those on pronotum, moderately dense and long, suberect, not forming waving pattern. Hind wings present, functional.

Legs moderately long, robust, lacking any peculiar modifications except for moderately broadened protarsomeres.

Metaventrite unmodified.

Aedeagus ( Figs 8–11 View FIGURES 7–12 ) moderately elongate, AeL 0.58 mm; median lobe in dorsal view with two shallow and broad constrictions, one in sub-basal and one in subapical region, apex with distinct median emargination separating rounded lateral lobes; in lateral view basal half of median lobe much broader than distal half, weakly bent at an obtuse angle near middle, with apical region additionally slightly bent dorsad; sides of ostium lacking rows of setae; endophallus with strongly elongate but relatively broad projection with rapidly narrowed, subtriangular and pointed apex.

Female. Unknown.

Distribution. Fujian.
